Backslider!?

A friend and I went out shopping this past Thursday and she said something to me that, although spoken in jest, was kind of hurtful.

First, we went to Sam's and I bought a box of Rice Krispie Treats for the kids. I'll be the first to admit that these aren't the healthiest of snacks, but they're better than cookies, chips, and candy. So I put them in the cart and my friend turns to me and says, "Yeah, we know they're for you. Backslider!" So I gave her the "yeah whatever" half-laugh and just left it alone.

Next we went to Trader Joe's where I bought some chicken burgers, soy crisps, whole wheat buns, etc. While standing in the checkout line I grabbed a couple dark chocolate bars and put them in the cart. I usually buy a few per week and when they're gone that's it until next week. So what does she say? "Yep, see. You're backsliding!" Right there in the middle of the store! How awful!

Since then she's used that same word a few times while we've been on the phone and I've been fixing food. I don't know why she's chosen to say that to me, even if she's just kidding around. Next time says it, I'm calling her on it because it's just plain rude.

Just plum good!

I remember having plums as a child, and at the time I thought they were okay. Not great, but tolerable. So last week when I went to Sam's for my weekly produce stop, and I noticed 4 lb. bags of plums for less than $5, I figured I'd give them another try. After trying them again, all I can say is, "Wow!"

Maybe my memory is failing me (we are talking over 25 years ago) or maybe these are a different variety, but holy crap! They're awesome! Almost like a fruit version of Sweet Tarts candy! They're sweet, sour, and tangy all at the same time. The ones I got were pretty firm so maybe they weren't ripe yet? I don't know why, but these are waaaaaay better than the ones my mother bought for me as a kid. I'm on my 3rd bag in 9 days! :-D

Week 56 Weigh-In

Current weight - 228.6 lbs.
This week's loss - 1.2 lbs.
Total loss - 89.0 lbs.
Average Daily Calories - 2,061
Treadmill - Walked/Jogged 15.25 miles in 4 1/2 hours over 6 days burning 2,557 calories (calories burned calculated by Polar F11 HRM).

Hey guys! Well I had another decent week. If I can string enough of these together I might make it to ONE-derland by September! Wouldn't that be nice?

I did eat too much food this week, but I compensated by adding another hour on the treadmill. I've been watching Australia's Biggest Loser and it's keeping me going on the 'mill. Why is it that everyone I like gets voted off? :-(

Went to the dentist yesterday and it's going to cost $2,000 to replace the split tooth I had pulled back in December, as well as getting a few cavities filled. Ugh...what is the point of dental insurance if it covers nothing? More expensive plans cover more, but not enough to offset the higher cost. I had planned on buying myself some diamond earrings when I reached 100 lbs. lost and maybe getting my teeth whitened professionally, but instead I'll just fix this stuff. I don't want to look back 10 years from now and wish I had fixed things earlier. Oh, and I'm opting for the tooth-colored fillings which do cost a little bit more, just in case you're dying to know! :-D

Week 55 Weigh-In

Current weight - 229.8 lbs.
This week's loss - 0.8 lbs.
Total loss - 87.8 lbs.
Average Calories - 1876
Treadmill - Walked/Jogged 11.75 miles in 3 1/2 hours over 5 days burning 2,020 calories.

Woohoo! Fourth week of loss in a row! I'm feeling a lot better about everything, but I know I need to try harder. I'm still only one cookie away from disaster. :-(

When I got on the scales and saw a number in the 220's it really hit me. I can do this! Just 2.2 lbs. left until 90 lbs. lost! I also can't wait to lose another 10 lbs. Not only will that bring me to the two-teens, but I will be under 100 kilos! We Americans rarely use the metric system, but I'm looking for mini-milestones anywhere I can find them. :-)

Stressful day!

Today was my oldest daughter's 6th birthday party and I just had to deal with 23 5 and 6 year-olds for 2 hours. :-O This was our first birthday party away from home, and I guess it went okay. We had it at a local place which is basically a big warehouse with 6 huge blow-up moon walk house type things.

Foodwise, I was good during the party, but when we got home I had a BIG slice of leftover cake for "dinner". I don't know how many calories it contained, but we'll just call it 700. For "dessert" I had a bunch of cherry tomatoes and half an English cucumber with some lowfat dip. LOL Nice dinner, huh? I really hope I didn't damage my chances of losing weight this week. :-( The f'd up part was that the cake wasn't very good but I still ate it anyway.

Oh well, I have 2 more days to be good before weigh-in! Hope everyone had a great weekend! :-)

Week 54 Weigh-In

Current weight - 230.6 lbs.
This week's loss - 3.2 lbs.
Total loss - 87.0 lbs.
Average Calories - 1807
Treadmill - Walked/Jogged 11.72 miles in 3 1/2 hours over 5 days burning 2,174 calories.

Oh, where to begin! First off, the last two weeks there were typos in my stats. I actually *lost* weight, not gained. I'm lazy and just "copy & paste" the stats portion of my posts and just plug in the new numbers. Unfortunately, I forgot to change that one word! LOL The actual numbers, however, were right. Serves me right for being lazy! :-)

With the exception of one day, my food went great this week. The only day that was a problem, was when DH brought home an extra bag of Oreos. :-( I asked him to go to the store to buy one bag for our oldest daughter to take to school for the class, and he bought two! When I asked him why, he said they were on sale. He knew that I have a hard time resisting that stuff and he still brought it home. Here it is nearly a week later, and I'm still pretty peeved about it. So, long story short, I had like 700 calories worth and blew my caloric intake for the day. Sometimes I think he's trying to undermine my efforts.

Here's an exciting little milestone I hit this week... In total, I need to lose 172.6 lbs. to reach my goal. I've now just passed the half-way point! Yipee! So far, 87 lbs. down and 85.6 lbs. to go! I hope to see a few more mini-milestones in the coming weeks. Next week I hope to see the 220's and then maybe the week later hit the 90 lb. mark?! It'll be tough, but I'm going to try!

So there you have it. I'm going to try to keep up with this blog a little more and update more than once a week. I know I've been slacking. :-)

Have a great day!
